Spirituality and Caregiver Burden of People with Intellectual Disabilities: an Empirical Study

In recent years, interest in topics related to disabilities has grown. However, little attention been devoted people who constantly care for family members with an intellectual disability (ID). Thus, this study evaluated the relationship between caregiver burden of and spirituality. The applied method was quantitative, exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional. instruments used collect data were a sociodemographic questionnaire, including questions extracted from WHOQOL-100 (spiritual domain), following scales: Centrality Religiosity; Brief Spiritual Religious Coping; Struggles; Zarit Burden Interview Satisfaction Life Scale. One hundred twenty-nine participated study. sample categorized as “highly religious” (57.3%), 61.24% had overload classified moderate (36.43%) severe (24.81%). use positive spiritual/religious coping methods considered medium (M = 3.44), religious spiritual struggles low 1.71). Results show that those themselves “spiritual highly score light more life satisfaction. Such results indicate importance being attentive role dimension when planning emotional, psychological, existential/spiritual support assistance. Public policies should consider exclusively caring disabilities. Studies focusing on how can be provided population intensified.
